Collingwood, ON [27 September 2023] – This Thursday, September 28th marks Ontario’s first Test Your Smoke Alarm Day – Saved by the Beep. Residents are encouraged to learn more about smoke alarms, fire safety and home escape planning, critical education and preparation that could save you and your family’s lives!

On September 28th Collingwood Fire Services would like you to test your smoke and CO alarm. Having a working smoke alarm ensures you and your family are alerted to the potentially life-threatening danger a fire can have.

“In 2022, Ontario had 133 fire fatalities, the most the province has had in 20 years,” says Fire Chief Dan Thurman. “This is heartbreaking! We can’t emphasize enough that the simple act of testing your smoke alarm can save your life. It takes less than a minute and should be done regularly, we recommend once a month.”

The Saved by the Beep campaign is aimed to encourage residents to test your alarms and share it on social media to encourage friends and family to do the same.

How to participate?

Snap a photo of you or family members testing your smoke alarms and post it to social media using the hashtag #SavedByTheBeep. Tag your friends and family to spread the message!
