Collingwood Celebrates the Changing of the Seasons and the Spring Equinox

Consider This ...

Collingwood, ON [13 March 2023] – Celebrate the Changing of the Seasons and the Spring Equinox this March. The Town of Collingwood invites you to Join Elder James Carpenter, Muckpaloo Ipeelie, and Jennifer McFarlane as we honour the Spring Equinox, acknowledging the changing of the seasons through Indigenous cultural teachings and knowledge sharing.

The Changing of the Seasons event will take place on Tuesday, March 21 at the Awen’ Gathering place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

In collaboration with the Collingwood Indigenous Circle and with the support of Muckpaloo Ipeelie, four gatherings have been scheduled to take place in 2023 each coinciding with the new season, honouring Mother Earth.

With each Changing of the Seasons gathering there will be teachings shared by Elders of different Nations, Indigenous games, a sacred fire, food sharing, and new this year prizes.

There is a balance in nature, each season holds important teachings and ways of understanding. Indigenous stories are connected to all aspects of the natural world, the land, water and sky. Seasonal gatherings invite us all to reflect, learn and grow.

This year’s Changing of the Seasons Gatherings will also include an Indigenous Leadership Project, guided by the Collingwood Indigenous Circle (CIC). The CIC as a regional group continues to grow, strengthen and collaborate. The Leadership Project will focus on mentorship, teachings and facilitation of each gathering.

Jennifer McFarlane a local Métis woman will lead the Changing of the Seasons gatherings through each of the seasons in 2023 with support from Muckpaloo Ipeelie, Heather McIntyre, and the Collingwood Indigenous Community

There is no cost to participate, and all are welcome. Visit www.collingwood.ca/seasons or www.CollingwoodIndigenousCircle.ca for more details.
